The Dune House

Frame Colour: Pearl White
Glazing: Grade A Safety Toughened Low-e Double Glazing (Argon Fill)

Set within a coastal environment shaped by wind, sun and salt air. This contemporary home balances refined architectural detailing with robust performance requirements. Designed with a modern coastal and Scandinavian style, the residence embraces light, openness and connection to the landscape.

Rylock Windows & Doors played a critical role in achieving this balance. Through large-scale glazing solutions, carefully aligned mullions and precision-engineered systems, the windows and doors support both the architectural intent and the environmental conditions of the site.

Performance by Design

Given the home’s coastal location, performance was a non-negotiable aspect when choosing the right windows and doors. All Rylock products were engineered to meet N3 wind load requirements, ensuring durability and long-term reliability in exposed conditions. BAL compliance was also a key consideration, with window and door selections supporting the home’s bushfire resilience without detracting from the architectural outcome.

Product placement

The home is defined by twin gables with floor-to-ceiling windows and doors and calm, restrained materiality. Expansive openings were essential to the design, allowing interiors to feel open and connected while framing views and inviting natural light into the living spaces.

A combination of Fixed Lite Windows, Awning Windows, Casement Windows and Hinged Door systems delivers a cohesive and highly functional solution throughout the home.

A 1500 mm-wide frame-only Hinged Door at the front entry provides a strong yet refined arrival, framed to complement the home’s minimal detailing.

In the main living areas, expansive Fixed Lite Windows play a central role in shaping the interior experience. A five-metre-wide Fixed Lite Window with three vertical mullions anchors the ground-floor lounge, drawing in natural light while maintaining structural integrity.

On the first floor, another five-metre-wide Raked Fixed Lite Window mirrors the lower-level configuration, again with three vertical mullions. These mullions are precisely aligned between both storeys. Creating a strong sense of visual order and continuity throughout the façade.

A 2-metre-wide Awning Window with Truth bar operator hardware offers controlled airflow while maintaining a streamlined appearance, while a Casement Window further enhances cross-ventilation and connection to the outdoors.

Material Integration

Externally, the Rylock windows and doors sit comfortably alongside timber cladding, masonry and metal roofing, reinforcing the home’s modern coastal character. Internally, large glazed openings work in harmony with light-toned timber floors and neutral finishes, creating calm, sun-filled interiors that feel both grounded and expansive.

Through precise detailing, aligned mullions and high-performance systems, Rylock Windows & Doors have helped deliver a home that feels open yet protected, refined, yet robust. The glazing solutions were integral to the architectural expression, supporting the home’s connection to the landscape while meeting the demands of its coastal setting.
